I've only had BAD experiences when using raid subsystems with Oracle, mainly things like reduced performance and lack of being able to control exactly where tablespaces / tables go.

When you have parent / child tables, rather than split them into different tablespaces, why not cluster them, ie store them together, this makes joining the tables much more efficient at the cost of increased time for table scans.
