We use Exabyte 8mm tape in a Sun drive in a Sun/Solaris 2.4 machine. There is nothing on the drive or in the book to say what model number it is, just a serial number. The kernel identifies it as a <Exabyte EXB-8500 8mm Helical Scan>

With this drive you can get 160 metre tapes that hold 7Gig. I find that with compression a 10 Gig database will fit, along with 3 Gig of logs. Under Solaris, the device to use to get compressions is: /dev/rmt/0cbn
The 0 depends on where the drive is, the c indicates use compression.
