New Database Net setup

I am to design a cross platform database that will be accessed via Netscape. The database will have a 2 way interface with a mainframe. ( DBII tables ) I am to use HTML and Java for Netscape. I have also been advised to use MSAccess to write the front end. My question is ....

1. Should I really use MSAccess for the frontend? Or should I write the GUI in someother lang?
