Import full database

Happy New Year!

I need some information on importing a full export into an existing database. This may seem like a silly question but I need to be very sure that this will work.

Situation:
We're moving platforms from Sun Solaris to HP-UX 10.01. The Oracle RDBMS's are the same version of software. However, the Sun production database is spread over many datafiles for it's data. What I would like to do is create the database on the new machine (HP) with larger datafiles and then import a full export of the database coming off of the Sun machine.

Question:
Will the import bomb because the database already exists? The utilities guide talks about the import utility continuing when objects and users exist but not databases. Has anyone out there done something similar?

Thank you!
