From: "No Money-Mister" Subject: spearce file on AIX 4.1.4 and Oracle7 Date: 1996/11/17 Message-ID: <01bbd481$4dd205e0$29d3dc91@pecosal>#1/1 organization: We and Us, maybe Them newsgroups: comp.databases.oracle,comp.databases.oracle.server,comp.unix.aix I'm using Oracle7 (7.2.2.4) on a R30 (AIX v4.1.4). As backup we use 8mm tape drive and some script that uses mksysb and savevg.. My problem is that savevg uses backup/restore commands. When after restore from some Oracle tablespaces the files are smaller on disk then before. 'ls' gives the correct size but 'du' gives a smaler size. Now i'm told AIX saves only the data in the file and removes the empty spaces. My problem is after some restores you don't know how mutch spaces there is left on that drive (it is possible to put a new file next to the empty restored file). Is there a way to turn this off or to get the correct size with some command other then 'df' 'du'... (I don't whant to switch back to tar command) greating Stanley (e-mail pref) ----- Stanley Appel Schtusboom 11 4847 HZ Teteringen The Netherlands tel: +31-76-810346 e-mail: pecosal@pop.pi.net
