I recently set up a new DG Aviion for a customer using a 7-disk Clariion disk array with a read cache.
We elected for 2 disks mirrored, with redo on the mirrored disks for fast access, and the rest of the database on a 5-disk raid-5 array. This database has a steady write access, not performance-critical (order entry etc.) , but a high read performance need - accessing detail stats over 2 years deliveries etc., and appears to work o.k. As a precaution, I set up 5 file systems (/disk1 , /disk2 etc.) and allocated tablespaces and tables to them as if I were using single disks, so if there is a problem, I can switch to separate disks with one disk backup/restore.
