If you are using 7.3, there is a bug concening this. There is a trace function that is on by default. The output is in $ORACLE_HOME/otrace. I believe the files are reg*.dat and proc.dat. To shut this off, you need to set an environment variable to FALSE. I don't remember it right off the top of my head, but if you follow up with me via email, I'll let you know.
