Performance problem.

Hi everybody.

I know that there is a lot of way to increase performance of an application. But could you tell me some I could not think of ? I'm a totally lame on that part.
I have a big query, searching results trougth 12/15 tables, the time cost of that is 20seconds.
The query is good, i could not make it better. I made some indexes, maybe they are not totally appropriated, maybe not. Could you help me by giving me a web site or some tips or what to look for ?
