Listener crashes after first connection

I had a problem with a previously problemless 9.2.0.1.0 running on XP SP2 that after the first connection, the TNS listener would just crash inexplicably. This could be caused by just pinging the listener twice: the first tnsping was fine, but the listener had been set into a state whereby the second tnsping wouldn't return and any subsequent query via the lsnctrl interface also didn't return.

Neither the listener.log nor the listener.trc (with trace set to ADMIN) would reveal any errors - it was as if the process had stopped without logging anything.

Upon netstationg the port it was supposed to listen on (big surprise, 1521), I found there were 2 entries listening on 1521. Not knowing much about Windows, I just changed the tnsnames.ora/listener.ora to listen on something else (say, 1522), and hey presto, the problem was "solved" (or avoided, as the case may be).

I had previously tried to set registry flags like USE_SHARED_SOCKET to no avail, and had also put this flag into the sqlnet.ora, after having googled other threads on this topic.

Not knowing much about Windows, I'm going to leave it at that, but it would be nice to know if anybody knows the real cause of this problem. Received on Wed Aug 03 2005 - 14:25:23 CDT
