can't access a table in dblink with ado 2.5 and OraOLEDB.Oracle.1

when i try to do a select on table in db link i with ado 2.5 on vb6 with oracle client 9
i get:
ORA-02041: client database did not begin a transaction

i tried using the registry settings microsoft suggested but still no show
