Depending on you definition of "simple": No.

But consider this. Suppose you take a cold backup and your server burns itself to the ground two seconds later. What would you do? Hopefully you know how to quickly reconstitute your production db. I just happen to find transportable tablespaces among the easiest and cleanest ways to move things around.
