For example, since I am currently leading an Oracle Spatial extensions seminar, my first guess at 3-D and 2-D database involves GIS systems and georeferenced coordinates or CAD-CAM systems. Such a merge is possible then by unloading the varray, resetting the ordinate set to 3-D triplets, and reloading the varray using data triplets, or setting up a completely separate SDO_GEOM. But I suspect that ain't what you want at all.

Your question implies you might be confusing spreadsheet with database.

Please explain (in detail, and with pictures if possible) what you mean by 2-D tabular database and 3-D database.
