I TOTALY DISAGREE! (and yes, that is shouting)
Especially with threading readers, it is MUCH more convenient for secondary participants to read responses in which only the relevant portions are left.
Threading supports the concept of 'look up the references yourself, it's not necessary to duplicate it here, and it's convenient and in reach'.
Precisely because of the threading, to me top posting and not removing irrelevant segments combined (and they are always combined) result in the most disgusting displays of laziness, waste (of bandwidth) and lack of respect for others.
Compare this tone to that I normally take, and you will get the feeling how much it irritates. I've voluntarily been contributing to this, and other forums, for several years, but am starting to become selective in my responses - see my .sig
