Wrong. The spammer doesn't know it. Newcomers to newsgroups with experience in chat rooms and IM don't know it.

 If there is no objection then spammers and new readers will conclude it is okay to post spam in this group, and over time the spam volume will overwhelm the real threads.

Daniel's proposal is the way it should work. It's the way it worked in this group before now. It is the way it works in other groups.

This whole discussion is actually good for the group on occasion. It's a training session for newer members to learn what's proper to post and what's not welcomed in a group.
