C is decent for writing operating systems. It's only dumb when globally taught to all CS students as the language for all purposes including application programming.
Of course, there are better languages for writing operating systems, but C has the first-to-market advantage of portability and wide usage.
Hmmm. Did Bill or Larry wind up with BLISS? Or PUBLIC?
