Hmmm. This might not help, but I'm in a similar boat. Win2K and Linux running 9iR2 on the desktop and a Sony Vaio runing XP Home on the lap top.

I'll be spending Christmas re-partitioning the disc and installing Mandrake 9.2 and Oracle all over again. It seems to run a lot faster on a Linux box (faster that Win2K on the same box !) and I much prefer Linux these days.

I'll keep XP for watching DVDs while working away - until I get Xine or MPlayer working with the DeCSS library to decode DVDs on Linux so that I can watch stuff I've bleeding well paid for.

I suspect you'll be stuffed by the XP Home stuff though. As for the laplink thing, I'd really go for a total reinstall - god only knows about DLL Hell on different OS versions, especially Microsoft. Been there, wore the T shirt. I have heard of people having (a) problems installing and (b) problems running Oracle on XP Home - while others have none.
