Home -> Community -> Usenet -> c.d.o.misc -> Re: How to import an Oracle-DB
Hi Niall,
many thanks to your posting! In fact the Oracle-DB datafiles are useless - that's what I have understood now. And a DB-dump is independent from any OS. OK, now I fortunately have found a dump-file on the alpha-server called <project-name>.dmp.Z that I copied to my PC and uncompressed with Winzip. The result was an about four times bigger file called <project-name>.dmp . Then I read the documentation to find out the further steps to be done. At first I started sqlplus and logged in as user 'internal' and executed the script catalog.sql. After few minutes it finished without an error message - well done! Then I started the tool 'data manager' (like before I also logged in as user 'internal') to execute the import command. The import wizard guided me through the preparation and finally I began to start the import. BUT ... the import routine aborted after a short time. I didn't write down the error message, but it is something like, that I use a wrong/invalid username resp. password. I am not authorized to perform an import - but who is allowed? Probably I haven't read the documentation carefully! ;-) Unfortunenately I hadn't any time yesterday late at night!! You must know, that I am not so experienced with DB-administration. I even would say, that I am beginner. So I would like to ask you again, because you certainly know the answer already. Hopefully I don't make you too busy with my question!! Thank you in advance!! :)
