What are the problems and issues you have on RH Linux? What are the costs of ownership, maintenance and support? Etc. Ask all those questions.

Then see if HP-UX provides better answers. Keeping in mind it runs on *very* expensive hardware.

Also do not mistake HP for HP-UX. If it is about vendor support and having a big name vendor, HP also sells and supports Linux.

Personally, I think your boss is an ass. Decision on hardware platform is a strategic one. Not a technical one. It's about a long term vendor relations, SLAs, support & maintenance, protecting h/w investment, scalability and growth of your systems and so on.

It's not something that should spring from "oh, I have money left in the h/w bugdet. Better spend it before year-end."
