If there is exactly one value per item and point in time you can versionize
the price
information.
There is no absolute price anymore but a set of consecutive price changes
(replacements)
in a different table. Every price replacement has a unique id and an
interval specifying two
points in time between wich it is valid. Maybe just one starting date
although that makes handling
harder later. (It's easier IMHO to guarantee consecutiveness by some
constraints or triggers
or by inserting via a pl/sql function).
If several prices are valid at any one time (like, per customer and time)
you've got to manage
several price sequences, one per customer.
