What is this MMC thing to which you are referring? I've installed hundreds of databases in more than a decade and have never seen, heard of, or used anything with the initialis MMC.

At this point I would uninstall Oracle. Clean out the registry (be very very very VERY careful). Clean out PROGRAM FILES/oracle. And start all over from scratch following the installation instructions on the CD exactly and without deviation.

Step 1: Be sure your hardware and operating system are compatible with the version and edition of Oracle.
