I think MS stealing from below is a very big worry.

Fully agree. 'Should' and 'Will' are two very different things. What Oracle is missing, of course, is that some small part of that very large proportion of newbies who won't get over the initial hump will remember it later when it comes time to buy industrial-strength apps. If you think 5-10 years into the future, apps will completely drive decisions over db's (as if they don't now?). Oracle has sorta covered the early-adopter crowd with the Linux stuff, but in the mid-term that will be less important than having a smooth path from newbie to CIO decision-maker. Income from training and consultancy is good for short-term stock results, but that will inevitably crash. Larry needs a consistent income stream to convert to a value stock with dividends.
