If you are serious about evaluating, please please please go to Oracle's Technology Network pages at http://otn.oracle.com. After registering, look at the link called Products in the left side menu and click on Application Server.

This will take you to the page that describes all the pieces that are included and preintegrated in the product. Several notes:

• there are now 4 packages of App Server, containing different groupings of the components;
• the pre-integration is not perfect, but I feel there is a very noticeable improvement in each verion;
• even though a component is included, you are not forced to use it if your organization already has a standard (there are a few exceptions);
• you can run all components on a single server, but in production you will probably want a minimum of 3 servers, and one of those should be the 'infrastructure server' which should be set up first.

The entire product is big enough that I encourage asking Oracle to provide installation assistance and overview during the eval period from their presales group. The docco, while comprehensive, is not easy to follow. Received on Wed May 21 2003 - 09:05:46 CDT
