You might want to get one of the posters that list dictionary things and put it up near your desk--they're VERY helpful. TUSC give them away at conferences like IOUG, or you can order one at http://www.tusc.com/oracle/download/posters.html. You'll still need the Oracle documentation for explanations about what all the various views and columns mean and how they're used, but just having the names in front of you is a big help.
