What's in your sqlnet.ora? You might want to check the SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES setting. It should include NTS, but try it both with and without NTS and see what happens - I don't run 8i anymore, but I am pretty sure I remember a server that had to have this setting tweaked when we moved it from NT to Win2K.
