Hold on ... hold on ... breathe deeply ... count to ten ... resist ... resisit ...

RTFM resistance was futile.

Now that I have that out of my system ... if you read the installation instructions on the CD they will explicitly tell you what to do.

But briefly ... install the tools first, database last, don't install 8i and 9i unless you have some compelling reason or just like to waste resources. And the simple solution to not installing into a single directory is to ... restrain yourself ... breathe deeply ... use a different directory.

I usually install something like:

ORACLE\IDS - Internet Developer Suite
ORACLE\ORA92 - The database
