Entry level advice needed

I am an entry level programmer. I have experience with Oracle directly, and
also JDBC connectivity. I am very unconfident. I would love to obtain "case
studies" or problems with real-life applicability to it so that I can get a
feel of the demand of an every-day job as a programmer. Can anyone help me
on this?
