Thanks, Daniel. Putting the entry in the tnsnames.ora file the application is actually finding is what the folks in our Data Management Group usually do, but wouldn't that just make the application using 9i point to the old 8i interfaces? Oracle is relatively new here and our DB people don't really know quite how to tweak it yet or exactly how all the pieces fit together.
