<sigh>.. these flame wars look almost like a religious thing to me.
Let's embrace the diversity in OS's, DB's, programming languages, the various ends you can start peeling an egg at, software tools, etc.. Face it, anyone here really think he can make someone else go "hey, i'll quit using product X and switch to product Y! Just because some dude mentioned I ought to have my head examined for using product X" ?
I'm ready to believe some Unix variants are technically better than Windows. But if you're also thinking in business terms you'll know that the technical aspect often comes third place: after commercial /economical factors and development time factors. Unhackable? Anything can be hacked. Bugfree? You ever written and tested software yourself?
Really had to laugh at this poster:
>"Charlie
>"By 2005, it will become clear that Linux will become a Globally dominate
OS."
I remember Alexander the Great, Napoleon, Hitler having more or less the same thoughts.
I'll stick to Windows and SQL server: I wouldn't sell a single copy of my software system if I used anything else: it wouldn't be ready by now (would have to switch OS, DB, programming language, programming technique), AND I'd have to convince my customers to switch en masse too (maybe I could use some texts seen in this thread...)
So! by the time I'm the last Windows user do warn me if I last to see that day.
Peace,
Bas
