Karsten was actually asking if you have two or more different versions of Oracle installed (say 8i and 9i or 8i and designer). I'd assume from what you said that the answer to this was no.

Can you.

  1. Put SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES=(NTS) back in sqlnet.ora (so you can start the database from svrmgrl/sqlplus)
  2. Stop all the Oracle services
  3. delete the nmi.log again
  4. issue the following commands in the following order net start <Oracleservicename> net start <oraclelistenerservicename> startup the instance via svrmgrl net start <oracleagentservicename>

and then see what nmi.log holds?

I guess the other question to ask is if you are using OEM to manage the database in question. if you aren't then there seems little point in running the agent at all.

You need to find an NNTP server, your ISP will normally provide this information or there may be a free one that allows posting (search google for free nntp server).
