Hi Jan

use the version 8.0.5 its OK for testing purpose (256 mb RAM), its not supported on w2k but there are no intiel problems Otherwise use 8.1.7 latest patch, turn the shared_poll_size down to 40 mb, db_block_buffers, log_buffer, javapool down it runs fine with 120 mb RAM (256 total) and i can have 1200 didicated connections ! (just testing)

You need too read docs, its not like sql-server(administrated on for 5 years, never read a book) Oracle is a database where you can tweak almost everything and it can handle everything, welcome to the Club.
