Oracle over home LAN

I'm trying to set up Oracle 8i over a home LAN and cant seem to be able to connect to any other machine apart from my own. I have two Oracle servers running with different server names to which I can connect individually but if I try accross the network...

I try :

user
pass
server1db

and I get some error message:

ora-12154:TNS:could not resolve service name

Do i need the other machine computer name and IP or something?
