I guess it depends on what kind of questions you prefer to answer at parties -

Q. What do you do
A. I'm a DBA
Q. What is that?
A. Well....database....IT.....administrator....computer....
Q. Oh, then can you tell me how to setup my computer to connect to the
internet?

or

Q. What do you do
A. I'm a Loans Officer
Q. Really, listen I want to get a new loan for .....

(or worse)

Q. What do you do
A. I'm a loans officer
Q. Right. Its people like you that ruined my business......

of course, you always need to think about the future e.g.

manager: We are installing new state of the art expert systems in our loans department to improve efficiency. To fund this initiative, I'm afraid we will have to let you go at the end of the week. Its been a pleasure.

or

Manager: We are installing new expert systems. However, due to the cost of these systems and the fact they are using new self-management, configuration and tuning technologies, we decided to cut our DBA staff by two thirds. However, don't worry, your position is quite safe, but we will be expecting an increase in productivity from you despite the fact you are now the only DBA for our national network. If you do need any assistance, we do have some under-utilized loan officers you can call on for assistance. I'm sure you can explain what they need to do and get them up to speed in DBA tasks.
