after some babelfish I'll reply to you.. :) I cant find in a short time what rant means, but I can figure it out.. :)
About my "elitist manner" I can nly say that I'm not so good at english writing to choose among manners.. so It's a misunderstood... As you can see I wanted only to say my opinion.. after all looking for help is for humble people.. not for an elite member. ..but let's talk about the real thing.

mmhh.. You have taken my words and interpreted it out of the context they've been said. I'll try to explain..
The UW Professor said me to do all the "heavyweight work" in sql*plus because "there are no shortcuts in education". this is true, but in my case I see an exception..
In this context when I say that writing reports is not really programming I want to say that the real hard stuff in a database programming is analisys. modelling and (after all) coding packages etc etc...
so when I ask for a tool I don't want to escape from hard work.. because I've already done the hardest one, ok?
About real programming and SQL.. I thing that SQL is a powerful technology and i like it.. about reports: I thought I need a tool because I realised that all the work I had to do was a repetitive: get user input, fire query/procedure, present result.. 50 times.. I don't wanted to write 1 million time the same (easy) thing.. that's all.

This reply is much useful than the
do-it-by-yourself-because-of-education-purpose from the UoW Prof. I
don't know if using sql*plus is easier.. I know it's easy because now
I've written all the 50 menus in day using notepad (ok ultraedit 9,
but this is a detail) and sql*plus.. i've remainded the chance to use
a productivity tool for the next time.

try using a mouse.. it's only a 20 years old mature tech..:) moreover Logitech is an italian founded/managed firm.. :)
apart jokes...
I don't want to slam nothing... but as your logic (surely far better than mine) web designers must use a mature notepad (emacs) tech to create their wbsites? Without a tool you never see great sites as the one you see now...

I know the real world very well.. I work and study since 19 in the IT field.. now I'm 28... If I lived a bucolic college experience I took my degree at 24. moreover the italian university is very different from the american ones... here you can take a degree playing basketball...:) [please no flames, ok?] no green fields, no campus, no party ( without Martini).. it's more like hell than you think.

this is true. but I don't know why you say it in this post. what say it's obvious and well known.. I don't want not-to-write reports, I want a tool to write better reports in a shorter time to make my boss happy.

I'm the "ignorant youth making silly statements" ? If you try to read my previous post, when your daughter will get better, paying more attention to what you read you will understand that I'm neither ignorant and youth.. and that I dont say nothing wrong.

Bye Cliff... At the end writing and reading these useless posts took me longer than writing the reports i need. Why everybody preached me and none helped saying that using sql*plus was faster and easier?
You americans have a strange way to spend your spare time.
Bye and thank you all
P.S.
If you are a sensitive american patriot substitud "americans" with the
names of the posters and add my name... I didn't want to generalize.
