I have some sympathy with Sybrand here, and some with you. Making interfaces easier undoubtedly increases productivity. MS Office is , for example, a far, far more productive environement than any of the Open Source alternatives. On the other hand it also enables people who don't wish to understand what they are doing to achieve bad results easily. (The office comparison is relevant here as well: carriage returns and spaces all over the place individual formatting rather than use of styles, no idea what a paragraph marker does, demand for reveal codes because they've used one product and the new one must work in the same way etc etc).
Sadly I suspect that those who just wish to 'get by' without knowing what they are doing are the majority. Does this mean that TOAD is bad - of course not - just that it is easier to misuse than the Vi/SqlPlus combination.
