sql plus, error

Hello,



I have just installed the oracle9i personal edition database on to my
computer. I tried to use SQL plus and a log on window appears. I
always recieve this message despite what I enter in the User Name and
Password fields:



ERROR:



ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error




Can you tell me what I should do in this situation?
