job market for oracle developers?

I'm learning sql and SAS as part of an Oracle Developer class I'm taking. The only IT experience I have (if you can call it that) is in Project Management and Web Development. I also have basic UNIX skills. I'm picking this stuff up quickly and really like it...I also think I'm a natural at programming.

All that aside, would there be any kind of demand for a person like me? I know the job market is bad, horrible even. Perhaps it would be a good idea to do some kind of internship first? Can anybody advise?
