Hi Yanick,
your dbms and data model would be of help, i didn't exactly catch the
meaning
of your first question and didn't want to read too long ;-).
So, just a little info regarding your question number 2, no help. According to the 8i SQL reference the function RANK *always* adds the number of tied rows to calculate the next rank. Therefore, the ranks may not be consecutive.
Maybe one of the real Gurus has a trick for you...
