just change and/or set the compatible parameter in init<sid>.ora and bounce the instance.
Many vendors of commercial software live in the assumption Oracle is Sqlserver sold by a different vendor. You seem to have been exposed to that myth too. Just forget everything you learned about sqlserver and leave your bad sqlserver habits or be prepared to enter hell.
