XML and Oracle

Hi,

Our company wants to make an application where customers can do payments via a cellulair phone. This will be done by XML messages send to the application. We now have the choice of building this application in Java or making use of Oracle tools and the Oracle database.
Can anybody provide me with argument in favor of Oracle vs a standalone java application, regarding the reliability, security, rollback, performance and all you can think off. Or maybe a place to look for documentation?

You would do me a great help.
