first database problem 817 linux

Hi
I'm probably missing something obvious, but any pointers would be greatly appreciated.
I've installed Oracle 817 enterprise ed on a Linux box(Mandrake 8.2) but when I try to create a database using dbassist I get the following error:

/home/ora01/app/oracle/product/8.1.7/bin/dbassist: line 103: 15502 Killed   $JRE_EXEC -Duser.dir=$USER_DIR -classpath $CLASSPATH DBCreateWizard $ARGUMENTS
