Trouble installing 9i Application Server on Redhat 7.1

Here's what I have:

PIII-733
256MB RAM
Redhat Linux 7.1
Oracle 9i 9.0.1 Standard Database

PIII-650
256MB RAM
Redhat Linux 7.1
Oracle 9i Application Server 1.0.2.2.2
Oracle 9i Enterprise Manager Server

I discovered the glibc problem with 9i database, and successfully installed it on the first server. However, this fix is not working for 9iAS. What's weird, is that I can install version 1.0.2.2.0 without any problems, but then I have trouble actually getting it to run. Version 1.0.2.2.2 is supposed to fix the problems I was having with the older version, but i can't even get it installed.

Here's the first error message:

Error in invoking target nautab.o of makefile     $ORACLE_HOME/network/lib/ins_nau.mk

I understand that this problem is related to a version problem with glibc and ld, but I have tried the workarounds and they are not working. I must be missing one or something. I have edited $ORACLE_HOME/bin/genclntsh, and removed "-z defs", and executed the file, but I get a message that says: "ld: cannot find -ln8". I have also tried compiling binutils2.10.1, renaming /usr/bin/ld and copying the newly compiled ld in it's place, but still no luck.

I don't have a support contract yet because my company really wants to see a working demo of this software before they commit to the purchase. What exactly is the point of free trial software if it's impossible to install because it has so many bugs!? Of course, I'm finding out that most of the bugs are known bugs, but I don't have access to Oracle's site to find out about them without a support contract. Kind of shooting themselves in the foot it seems.

Anyway, I hope somebody has an idea of what to do. Thanks for your help,

Michael Segulja
