I believe it is possible. But also highly recommended to upgrade AIX to 4.3.3 and use Oracle 8.1.7.3.0 Some irritating bugs were fixed in pathset 3.

Are you using 64 bit or 32 bits Oracle ? This may affect the possibility of running an Oracle version. Check OTN.ORACLE.COM to be sure.
