Re: Oracle 8i Personal running on Windows XP Professional.
I have been unsuccessful in doing what you have done. Oracle 8i initially installs fine. I can run all SQL scripts without any problems. But when I shut down the database it will not come up again.
Is there any "special tweaking" that you did to make this work for you ?
Everybody else is suggesting that I go out and buy Oracle 9i which I do not want to do unless I have to.
Thanks,

Certified by Oracle or not.... I have installed both Oracle 8i Personal and
Oracle 9i Personal on my Windows XP Professional system and have both
instances running simultaneously - and without any problems. I did have some
initial problems with the java installer, but I think that had more to do
with the P4 processor than with Oracle.

Oracle 8i installs and initially runs fine on WXP. But when I reboot my P/C
I can not get 8i to to start up again. I never had this problem with 8i on
WNT or W2K only with WXP.
Does anyone have any ideas.
Thanks,
