Others will likely scream and holler but my suggestion is to first learn
PL/SQL and become a developer and get two to five years under your belt.
My experience with DBAs that can't understand an application is that they
are generally of poor quality, have little comprehension of the needs of
developers, and spend their time being overprotective babysitters doing
nothing but backups and restores.
