changing text editors

Unable to change text editor from Notepad to Textpad using the following
command:



SQL> define _editor = Textpad


every time I attempt an "edit", I get a flicker of a screen, but no Textpad.
I have to revert back to notepad to edit scripts...
what am I doing wrong?



running Oracle 8i enterprise edtion 8.1.7.  on Windows 2000 pro
