Hi guys,
I want to know if it is possible to start an Oracle db instance via an C application (Pro*C), without using a "system()" call to "svrmgrl".
Sybrand Bakker answered that "It shouldn't be possible" and that this is "WORST IDEA he ever saw in this group". However, he didn't answer my question, neither give me any strong reasons to don't do that.
I know that to start an Oracle instance via a user written application is not conventional, and could cause a lot of problems. But my application isn't conventional too. It'll be the only application using the referred database.
And I'm just studying cases yet.
Solaris and Oracle 8i could record a lot of log information that I could use. Moreover, depending on the way I will start Oracle instance, I will create my own logs too.
I appreciate you help,
thanks,
