Hi,
I'm trying to setup an Oracle ODBC connection, but failing. Breifly, I have an Oracle 8.1.7 server running on an NT4 workstation and have installed 8.1.7 client on another workstation. I have configured the listener and on the server and using the Net8 Assistant I have set up a service name on the client which test connects successfully. Therefore I am happy that the Oracle client is connecting succesfully to the server.
I suspect it is a question of not entering the right names in the ODBC settings. In the Net8 Assistant in the tree view pane, under the "Service Naming" branch I have an entry of 'test.systems.ftv.com', with corresponding details of:-
"Service Name: test1.sampan"
"SID" - this field is disabled
"Connection Type: Database Default"
"[ ] Use Oracle8i Release...." - unticked
"Protocol: TCP/IP
"Host Name: sampan"
"Port Number: 1521"
I have not set anything under any of the "Advanced" options and like I mentioned before, I can do a test connection in the Net8 Assist. successfully.
So, when I set up an ODBC connection, I am creating a "System DSN" using the "Oracle ODBC Driver" option, but I am a little unsure of what I should enter as the "Service Name" in this dialog, I have tried both "test1.sampan" and "test.systems.ftv.com", but cannot connect when using the "Oracle ODBC Test" application.
Any help greatfully appreciated.
Chris
