Part of your problem is that while you recognoze the symptoms, you provide NO useful information.
At the OS level what does sar and/or vmstat show is happening in Solaris? Do you have any "interesting" entries in alert_SID.log files? What is happening inside Oracle during the "hang"?
You (we) need more FACTS to reach any definative conclusion.
