That is true, and I can entirely understand it. However I still think that it is a necessary skill for developers to be able to recognise different approaches and assess the merits of each. (Or indeed DBAs). Obviously courses need to teach the syllabus, but the bright students (say the top 10%) ought to recognise that in many cases there are alternatives.
