Breaking in to Oracle

I recently graduated with a degree in MIS. I had to take a job as a Systems Engineer because I have had more experience with networking and desktop support although the bulk of my MIS courses were in database design and development (primarily Access and Oracle). To get to the point: How does an aspiring Oracle developer/DBA break into the field? I don't mind starting at the bottom but it seems like there is no bottom. Every developer/DBA job post is looking for a Senior level applicant. Suggestions, anyone?

Frustrated,
